ABOUT PETE GANBARG

Pete Ganbarg has been a major label A&R executive since 1989 and in that time, has worked on projects whose worldwide sales total more than 45 million units.

Beginning his A&R career at the newly formed SBK Records in the spring of ’89, Pete began by helping out on a tongue-in-cheek soundtrack project, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” He commissioned a rap duo he was developing at the time to write an end title theme to the movie. The result, “Turtle Power,” sold 5 million singles worldwide and spent over a month at #1 all over Europe. Subsequent signings at SBK (which merged with EMI in the mid-90’s) included Cincinnati’s Blessid Union Of Souls, West Coast rapper Rappin’ 4-Tay, Jam-Band mainstays Little Sister (aka Sister 7), New York Celtic rock heroes Black 47, and a little known singer-songwriter named Darrell Scott, now one of Nashville’s top country songwriters and ASCAP’s country writer of the year in 2002. Pete also A&R’d Vanilla Ice’s now (in)famous 7X platinum debut, “To The Extreme.”

When SBK/EMI Records went out of business in America in the late-90’s, Pete joined Arista Records as Sr. Director, A&R. Working with the legendary Clive Davis, the first artist Pete worked with at Arista was Santana, for whom he A&R’d the 27X Platinum worldwide, 9X Grammy Winning Album of the Year, “Supernatural.” Pete also worked with his childhood heroes, Run DMC, and brought in a wide array of diverse artist signings including hard rock band Adema and 13 year old blues-rock prodigy Shannon Curfman.

In early 2001, Pete left Arista and joined Epic Records as Sr. Vice President, A&R. At Epic, he signed the rock band Revis and worked with a diverse segment of the Sony roster, with artists ranging from Michael Jackson to Celine Dion to Keb Mo, whose album “Keep It Simple” (A&R’d by Pete) was honored as Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 2005 Grammy Awards.

Pete left Epic in late 2003 to start his own full service music company, Pure Tone Music. Since then, Pure Tone’s A&R consulting division has become one of the top independent A&R consultancies in the music business. Clients include Arista Records, RCA Records, Atlantic Records, Virgin Records, Columbia(Australia), SonyBMG Strategic, and Burgundy Records. Artists A&R’d by Pete and Pure Tone include recent and forthcoming albums by Daughtry, Blake Lewis, Chaka Khan, Santana, Taylor Hicks, Aaron Neville, America, Donna Summer, Kenny G, Human Nature, Halestorm and Varsity.

Pure Tone’s Music Publishing division employs staff songwriters and has placed many of its copyrights in Film & TV projects over the past year.
